What is Fitness Authority?

GOAL: To promote fitness and get kids moving!

WHY: Children's fitness levels have decreased and obesity has increased.

WHO: All Boys & Girls Club members can participate.

WHAT: Use the FITNESS AUTHORITY program materials to run weekly activities for members. The program features 12 weekly sessions for each of three age groups:

  • Fitness Squad (ages 6-9)
  • Fitness Masters (ages 10-13), and
  • Fitness All-Stars (ages 14-18).
FITNESS AUTHORITY Competitions—Club members can take part in the Fitness Authority competitions that measure fitness levels through tests of endurance, flexibility, speed and strength.

Club-Wide Pentathlon—Club members of all ages can test their fitness levels in these local five-event competitions. Participants who are 10 or older are ranked by state and region within their age/gender categories, and the top two winners in each regional age group/gender category advance to regional competitions.

Regional Heptathlons—These seven-event competitions are conducted in two locations in June and July. Top winners in each age/gender category advance to the national championships.

National Heptathlon—The top-scoring heptathlon competitor in each of eight age group/gender categories is crowned a national champion. Each national champion receives a $1,000 scholarship.
