Citi Foundation supports Boys & Girls Clubs in workforce readiness and skill development, as well as volunteering and community service opportunities.
Supporting Community Service and Workforce Development
Boys & Girls Clubs of America strongly believes that Good Character and Citizenship programming is a vital component of our members’ Club Experience. Our organizational goal is to enable youth to become successful and productive citizens of their communities and our nation. Service learning and community service opportunities represent practical applications of this important principle. Youth who volunteer are more likely to do well in school, graduate from high school and vote. Furthermore, they are more likely to develop a strong work ethic that will serve them well as they pursue higher education and rewarding careers.
The Million Members, Million Hours of Service (MMMHS) Campaign is designed to raise awareness of service learning and community service, provide Club members with resources to implement a service learning or community service project, and engage 1 million Boys & Girls Club members to provide 1 million hours of community service (compounded annually) over the next five years. Ultimately, our goal is to engage 1 million members in at least 1 million hours of service in a single year.
With the support of Citi Foundation, our plan is to achieve the following goals by July 2017: provide Clubs with training materials on program and assist with Clubs’ receiving training from third-party vendor on the online program; fund and manage more than 20 Clubs to promote and encourage teens to online skill development training. Working in partnership with Citi Foundation, BGCA will build Boys & Girls Clubs’ capacity to sustain and expand this effort in future years.
