Since MLB™ designated BGCA as an official charitable partner in 1997, this highly successful relationship has given countless children the chance to realize their dreams both on and off the field.
During Major League Baseball and BGCA’s partnership over the last two decades, there has been a longstanding commitment to ensuring young people are improving their health and fitness by getting involved with numerous programs under MLB’s PLAY BALL initiative. This initiative highlights the many ways baseball can be played through Boys & Girls Club, including T-ball, Pitch Hit and Run, PLAY BALL Fitness, and RBI.Additionally, Club members get exclusive opportunities to engage in MLB Jewel Events including All-Star Week and Postseason. These once-in-a-lifetime activations include game ball delivery, on-field opportunities with players and front-office executives, creating lifelong memories.
The Major League Baseball® commitment to kids and BGCA is deep and far-reaching. From high-impact programs introducing kids to baseball, to national awareness campaigns, to once-in-a-lifetime experiences for Club members, the multi-faceted partnership has positively impacted the entire Boys & Girls Club Movement.
Each year, BGCA enjoys nationwide exposure by having our logo featured in the stadium and behind home plate and through an MLB-produced public service campaign featuring players and Club youth that is televised nationally and locally. These popular spots generate invaluable awareness for the Boys & Girls Club brand. In addition to the advertising campaign valued at $25 million plus annually, BGCA benefits from direct and indirect funding generated by Major League Baseball.A key reason for the partnership's success is the deep, personal connection so many big leaguers have with Boys & Girls Clubs. Club alumni include past baseball greats like Joe DiMaggio, Frank Robinson, Joe Morgan, Brooks Robinson, Harold Reynolds, Tino Martinez and Luis Gonzalez, and current stars such as CC Sabathia and Jon Jay. Others, like Shane Victorino and Baseball Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Cal Ripken Jr., Ken Griffey Jr., actively support today's Clubs.
