Time To
Celebrate!
National Boys
& Girls Club Week 2003
All over
the country, Clubs are celebrating National Boys & Girls Club
Week in a variety of ways:
In
Oklahoma,
Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Country is rallying all 32 Clubs
across the state to meet at the capitol for recognition by both
houses of the legislature. In addition, they are asking the governor
to proclaim Oklahoma State Boys & Girls Club Day. While at the
capitol, Club members are enlisting legislators to participate in
games and join them for photos.
The
Salvation Army Wilson Boys Club in North Carolina is going
out to the ballgame. In conjunction with the opening of baseball
season, they are hosting a baseball tournament with pitch, hit and
run activities, all part of their Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities
(RBI) program, sponsored by Major League Baseball. To prepare for a
future capital campaign, the Club is also asking alumni to Come On
Home.
In
Gainesville, Fla., the Boys & Girls Club of Alachua County is celebrating Boys &
Girls Club Week by supporting both the community and American troops
in Iraq. To help area residents in need, the Southeast Unit is
conducting a food and clothing drive, while the Woodland Park Unit
is hosting an open house to promote their new computer lab, adult
literacy and GED programs. Paying tribute to U.S. troops overseas,
members of the Northwest Unit will release several hundred yellow
helium-filled balloons containing messages of support from the
children. Club members will also support the troops by creating
special Easter Cards to send overseas.
While
some Boys & Girls Clubs have planned weeklong events, others are
enjoying a simple picnic with Club members and their families. No
matter what the venue, it’s time to celebrate!
