MACY'S SOUTH AND BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF AMERICA PARTNER TO COMBAT RISING HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT RATES

"Thanks for Sharing" Holiday Campaign to Benefit
Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Goals for Graduation Teen Program

[ATLANTA] (Dec. 1, 2006) – Macy’s South, one of seven divisions of the Macy’s brand retailer, announced today that together with its customers, it projects raising over $1 million with its Thanks For Sharing holiday campaign for Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). This donation will directly support BGCA’s Goals for Graduation program geared towards increasing high school graduation rates among teens in Macy’s Southern region.

Through Macy’s South’s Thanks for Sharing holiday campaign, shoppers are encouraged to charge a one-time fee of $25 to their Macy’s credit card, which donates $10 to BGCA and earns customers a 10 percent reward on credit card purchases.

“Macy’s Thanks for Sharing campaign is one that really synchronizes well with our mission to help our youth with their future goals,” said Roxanne Spillett, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “We are grateful to Macy’s for valuing our youth and most importantly, investing in their education.”

According to the Education Research Center, only 69.6 percent of public school students graduate from high school with a regular diploma. BGCA’s Goals for Graduation program seeks to help Club members to set appropriate academic goals and apply these skills to becoming self-directed learners.

“As a youth development organization, we understand the importance of youth setting and achieving goals,” said Dr. Erica S. Stevens, BGCA director of education programs. “When they are encouraged and challenged to set and apply appropriate academic goals and skills, youth are more likely to thrive academically and graduate from high school, thus increasing their chances of becoming responsible and productive citizens in the future.”

Macy’s South’s campaign will directly reward 40 Boys & Girls Clubs in the states of: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. The Thanks for Sharing Campaign is scheduled to conclude at the end of December. Last year, Macy’s South contributed over $440,000 from the Thanks for Sharing holiday campaign to BGCA.
