BGCA's 2008 Alumni Hall of Fame Inductees
Meet this year's inductees, an amazing group of former Club kids who credit their hometown Boys & Girls Clubs with shaping their lives and helping them achieve their lifelong goals. BGCA inducted each into the 2008 Alumni Hall of Fame during the 102nd Annual National Conference, held this year in San Francisco, May 6-9.

Who better to emcee the event than 2006 Alumni Hall of Fame inductee Courtney B. Vance of Law & Order: Criminal Intent fame. During the event, Vance was surprised to receive the President's Call to Service Award, which was presented to him on behalf of President George W. Bush.

"We had all the love we needed in my house, but we didn't know what was possible beyond our little world. I learned how to just be a kid, which in my neighborhood wasn't easy to do."

Joe Burton
Advertising Executive

"You give them opportunities. You give them hope. You save lives. I want to give back to my community. I know the essence of what a Club is about. We put together great facilities, but more importantly, we have great people."

"My avenue of escape was the Boys Club. It was a safe place to go. I'm here to say thank you to those who are repeating what I received. Thank you and God bless you for the work you're doing in our country."

"When you have an injury, you have a lot of time to reflect on your life. I can say, without a doubt, Boys & Girls Clubs top that list. In my eyes, I had a dream team [for Club staff]. I am honored and proud to call them my friends. I owe a great debt of gratitude to them."

Craig Fitzgerald

"We were fixtures at the Club every single day."

"I talked my way into becoming the PE director. I believe the 10 years I was a Boys & Girls Club worker were the most productive 10 years of my life."

"He [Club mentor] taught me leadership and respect. You can never give enough thanks to a guy who gives you that much time. You never forget the legacy, the friendship you learn at the Club. You can take away the basketball and you can retire, but you can't take away the legacy of the Boys Club."
