Club Joins MLB to Honor Veterans

Sacrifice and Heroism
Club Members Join MLB Volunteers to Pay Tribute to Veterans

This Veteran's Day, 62 Club members and staff from the South Queens Boys & Girls Club joined volunteers from Major League Baseball to honor the 15,000 fallen soldiers buried at Cypress Hill National Cemetery in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Boys & Girls Club members placed American flags on each of gravesites to pay tribute to these veterans who collectively  participated in every conflict since the American Revolution. In addition, the cemetery is home to four of the seven servicemen ever to receive two distinguished medals of honor. Club members paid special honor to these fallen heroes with two flags planted at each of their graves.

"This community service provided our young people with a real lesson in pride and honor," said Club Executive Director Leo Compton. "I know this experience will stick with them and remind them of the heroism and sacrifice our soldiers in the past and those today have given and continue to give."

These young people also met others who were at the cemetery that day to pay their respects on the annual holiday. Join our Club members through these moving photos provided by our friends at Major League Baseball.
