Our 2011 National Boys & Girls Club Week, April 20-26, was a incredible success with hundreds of Clubs around the country opening their doors to the community, inviting them to special events and fun activities!
In honor of this special week, on Tuesday, March 22, more than one thousand Clubs and 20,000 kids attempted to break the Guinness World Record for Star Jumps (jumping jacks)! While we don't yet have the official results from Guinness, we did have thousands of kids jumping all at the same time having fun. From Maine to California -- even in Belgium -- our Club members joined in to break the record and send a message about having fun through physical fitness.
Many Clubs also hosted picnics, open houses and performances to highlight the its vital role in the community. Clubs provide homework help, physical and social recreation, arts and crafts, career preparation, character building programs and more!
Just because the week is over, doesn't mean you can't continue to learn more about your local Boys & Girls Club. Contact your local Club and find out why great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs!
BE GOLDInspired by Olympic gold winner Jackie Joyner-Kersee, this video highlights how Boys & Girls Club members are encouraged to reach their full potential . . . to compete with themselves . . . to BE GREAT. At Jackie's hometown Club in East St. Louis, she never felt alone and never gave up, only to become the greatest female athlete of her generation.
Help other kids just like Jackie to find their stride and win their own race. Support Boys & Girls Clubs!
