Supporting Our Troops By Supporting Their Kids
|
Even
with the end of the official war in Iraq, there
are still hundreds of thousands of troops who
continue to face danger on a daily basis. That
means there are hundreds of thousands of families
back home without a father or mother, sometimes
both. Children whose parents have been deployed
are especially vulnerable right now. Think how
frightening and unsettling it might be, turning
to the television for escape, only to see images
of the dangers your mom or dad might be facing.

For
more than a decade, Boys & Girls Clubs
of America has partnered
with the U.S. military to provide Boys & Girls
Club programming and services to children
of military families.
On 380 U.S. military bases both here and
overseas, Boys & Girls Club-affiliated
Youth Centers give children something even
more important
than youth development programs: stability.
No matter
where military families are transferred,
their children know they can find consistency,
comfort
and a sense of belonging at their Club/Youth
Center.
Before he was Secretary
of State, Gen. Colin Powell served on Boys & Girls
Clubs of America’s
National Board of Governors. A strong supporter
of our mission and our Clubs, Secretary
Powell recently made a special request,
asking Clubs
to reach out even more to military families
at a time of conflict. We are more than
proud to
do so.
This issue of The Positive
Place is a tribute to our men and women in uniform.
You’ll
learn about the tremendous partnership
between Boys & Girls Clubs of America
and the U.S. military, and find out some
of the ways our
Clubs are supporting military families
during this
critical time.
We are grateful to you,
our donors, for making efforts like
these possible. Because
of you,
our Club youth are learning the importance
of good citizenship and giving back
to their country.
Thank you for helping to build the
next generation of Americans. |
