Tests explosive muscle power in legs and back.
Measures the distance a competitor
can jump from a standing position.
Each competitor starts at a line on the ground, feet together and behind the line. The competitor jumps as far forward as possible from the line. The point the competitor touches the ground nearest to the tape is measured and recorded. If the athlete falls back, steps back or a hand touches the ground due to poor balance, the point nearest the starting line is measured. Each competitor may take three (3) jumps.
Record the distance traveled in inches and quarter inches (e.g., 57 1/4 inches).
IF A COMPETITOR TOUCHES THE LINE, OR DOES NOT JUMP FROM A STATIONARY POSITION, THE JUMP WILL NOT COUNT. BOTH FEET MUST STAY ON THE GROUND FOR AT LEAST 5 SECONDS PRIOR TO THE JUMP.
