Sony Electronics Inc. Helps Support Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Arts Programs.  

Sony and Boys & Girls Clubs of America have partnered to bridge the gap in access to arts education and photography programming, while providing Club kids exposure to future technologies through the ImageMakers National Photography Program and Contest. 

Sony is a global leader in image sensors, the heart of photographic technology used in cameras and mobile phones around the world.  Sony’s support enables Club youth to learn the art and science of photography while provides access to the latest digital imaging equipment from Sony.

Hold on to the LightBoys & Girls Club youth engage in visual storytelling through the ImageMakers National Photography Program, and participate in the ImageMakers National Photography Contest. With a rich, 50-year history, the Photography Contest is one of the member competitions from BGCA’s arts initiative, which invites youth ages 6 to 18 to capture photographs and express their creativity in five categories: culture & tradition, portraits, fashion, surroundings and photo with essay or poem. ImageMakers provides innovative and high-quality arts programming that stimulates learning and academic success; inspires creativity; explores future careers; and encourages self-expression, critical thinking and problem solving. Arts programming helps build design thinking and in turn supports youth’s STEM interest, which supports Sony and BGCA’s commitment to expanding youth exposure to future technology and possible career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

For more than 50 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of America has celebrated the accomplishments of Club youth as they learn the art and science of photography. In partnership with Sony, BGCA offers the ImageMakers National Photography Program and Contest which enables Club youth to engage in visual storytelling and provides access to the latest digital imaging equipment from Sony.

The ImageMakers National Photography Contest is designed to help members go beyond snapshots and develop skills to take impactful photographs. This year-round program encourages Club members to learn and practice black-and-white, color, digital and alternative process photography. The contest invites youth ages 6 to 18 to capture photographs and express their creativity in five categories: culture & tradition, portraits, fashion, surroundings and photo with essay or poem.  After local and regional competitions, the ImageMakers National Photography Contest yields regional and national winners whose photography is displayed at local and regional exhibits around the world.
