ZAC Foundation

The ZAC Foundation is committed to developing swimming ability and better ensuring safety in and around the water for Boys & Girls Club members.

Supporting Safety

Through ZAC Camps, Club members ages 5-9 learn about the importance of pool and open water safety. The week-long camps are composed of three primary educational stations: classroom instruction, swimming lessons, and interaction with first responders who work together to teach children the ABC and D’s of water safety – adult supervision, barriers around water, water safety classes, and educating children about drain safety.

The Foundation developed this water safety program with the support of firefighters, police departments, EMS, and the Red Cross. ZAC Camps, which have been hosted by a variety of organizations including Boys & Girls Clubs, will be implemented by the ZAC Foundation with Boys & Girls Clubs across the country starting in spring of 2013.

Zachary Archer Cohn, who died tragically in 2007 due to a pool entrapment accident when he was only 6 years old, is the inspiration for this Foundation's mission and name. It is the Foundation’s hope that no other children suffer this tragic fate.
