Prevent Learning Loss

Summer ReadingDuring the summer, most youth lose about two months of grade-level equivalency in mathematical computation skills. Typically, students given a standardized test after summer vacation will achieve a lower score than when they take the same test at the start of summer.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America is committed to providing America's youth with every opportunity to graduate from high school on time, with a plan for the future. Toward that end, Clubs offer programs like Summer Brain Gain. Using fun, themed activities that align with common core anchor standards, Summer Brain Gain helps students in elementary school, middle school and high school retain critical reading and math skills. We live in a global economy, one increasingly driven by science, technology, engineering and math. To achieve long-term, sustainable success, children and teens will need STEM skills. At Boys & Girls Clubs, we provide kids with a safe, low-pressure environment. A place where they can engage in fun, hands-on learning experiences that encourage discovery, inspire creativity, and stimulate curiosity in STEM and other areas.

The activities and experiments below are a fun way to help your children learn more about STEM and retain the knowledge they worked so hard to learn during the school year.
