Hurricane Florence Impacts Boys & Girls Clubs

It's been nearly two weeks since Hurricane Florence made landfall in North Carolina and the worst is still not over as the death toll grows to 48 and floodwaters from cresting rivers continue to flare up and swamp entire towns and communities in the Carolinas.

Boys & Girls Clubs have unfortunately felt the impact of Florence in the region:

  • Nine Boys & Girls Club Organizations are reporting damage from the hurricane.
  • Five of these nine organizations have Clubs closed due to severe flooding and are unable to serve the youth in their respective communities.
  • Of the 31 Clubs most impacted, 25 remain closed as of today.

We are continuing to monitor the ongoing effects of these deadly flood waters and are maintaining communication with our Club leaders in the region. Due to the prolonged nature of this crisis, we are still assessing damages and determining needs.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America is actively assessing local needs and coordinating supplies for these organizations and Clubs. Please support Club relief efforts by making a donation at BGCA.org/DisasterRelief. Funds collected will be targeted to areas with the greatest need. Our ultimate goal is to get the closed Clubs reopened, and to serve youth in need as soon as possible.
