In partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the new Club will mark the fourth site for Boys & Girls Clubs of Bandera County as it invites local kids and teens into a safe place to thrive.
Press Release
(UVALDE, Texas) – April 3,2023 – This afternoon, in close partnership with the city of Uvalde and Boys & Girls Clubs of Bandera County, Boys & Girls Clubs of America will open Boys & Girls Club of Uvalde to support the community’s young people during a critical time.
As it continues its mission to provide safe places, caring mentors and life-enhancing experiences to kids and teens across the nation, Boys & Girls Clubs of America will support Boys & Girls Club of Uvalde with the resources, safety and positive mentorship it knows young people need to reach their full potential.
The new Club will open at Templo Cristiano | Tree City Assembly, providing local kids and teens with access to social-emotional wellness programs, workforce development experiences, and leadership and service opportunities as it offers a safe space for the young people of Uvalde to heal, learn and grow. The facility will also include a finished gym, separate teen space and outdoor playground, maximizing safety, support and fun for local children and their families during out-of-school time.
“While the opening of every new Club location is a celebration, we continue to acknowledge the tragedy that occurred, respect the sadness and pain felt in the Uvalde community, and honor those impacted,” said Jim Clark, President & CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “Our commitment to this community is to be a safe place for current and future generations of Uvalde youth, and we have been privileged to watch the strength that comes with community collaboration.”
Since the beginning, the opening of Boys & Girls Club of Uvalde has been a collaborative community effort. Boys & Girls Clubs of McAllen in Texas will be supporting the staffing of the Club for a few weeks while local staff are hired and trained. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston has also stepped in to support, as have other Club organizations throughout Texas.
Funding for Boys & Girls Club of Uvalde has been made possible through the support of many donors and partners, including Buffalo Wild Wings, Major League Baseball (MLB), The Starbucks Foundation, HP Inc. and CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen LLP), who have generously donated funds and additional support at a community picnic hosted last fall.
