"I really hope to create a new emphasis on political participation because getting young people to vote early, instilling confidence in their voice now, could be the key to raising a new generation of voters a new America."

Elizabeth dreams of becoming a political journalist. When staff at her Boys & Girls Clubs of America-affiliated Youth Center recognized this passion, they helped her develop it. Elizabeth joined Keystone Club, and became their Public Affairs Officer. In this role, she was able to take steps toward her future career, and she fell in love with the opportunity to write, take pictures and be published.

With the confidence and experience Elizabeth gained at the Club, she received an internship at United States Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa Public Affairs Operations. She was also accepted to the Washington Journalism and Media Conference hosted by Georgia Mason University. Elizabeth’s Club continued to help make her dreams a reality by sending her to BGCA’s National Keystone Conference, where she joined the Teen Media Crew. She was given backstage access, conducted special interviews and had the opportunity to be published on MyClubMyLife.com. With each door the Club opened for Elizabeth, she became more certain of her passion for journalism.

Elizabeth is a rising sophomore at the University of California, Davis, majoring in political science and Spanish, and minoring in professional writing. She aspires to become a political correspondent for a major news network and eventually work for the White House press corps.
