"I am no longer afraid of change, because I embrace it as a military child."

The line of service in Julia’s family begins with her grandfather, a Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient who paved the path of service for his two sons and eight grandchildren. Julia’s father retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving in Saudi Arabia, her brother spent two years in Afghanistan with the U.S. Air Force, and her sister is a doctor in the U.S. Army.

Julia’s entire life has revolved around the military, and instilled in her a sense of service and duty. One day, she hopes to follow the example of family members and serve her country. Until then, she serves in other ways. As a Red Cross volunteer, she conducts service projects through the teen leadership and service program, Keystone Club. She also volunteered three summers at a local library.

Like many military youth, Julia has relocated several times. The BGCA-affiliated Youth Center has been at almost every military installation her family moved to, providing much-needed stability and community. Julia is passionate about other cultures, languages and breaking down stereotypes and prejudices.

Julia will enroll at the University of Virginia this fall and hopes to become a dermatologist.
