Harry Reid

(December 2, 1939 – December 28, 2021)

U.S. Senator, NV

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid grew up in Searchlight, Nevada. His small hometown did not have a local high school so he went to live with relatives 40 miles away in Henderson to attend Basic High School, where he played football and was an amateur boxer. It was there that he was introduced to the Boys & Girls Club. The Club played a crucial role in his life as well as in the lives of his friends and other Henderson youngsters. For Reid, the Club’s boxing ring became a place to settle personal disputes. It taught him when to fight, and when not to fight. It also instilled in him the tenacity to work hard after realizing that no matter how great you are, there is always someone better. Reid currently serves as the Senate Minority Leader, having previously served as Majority Leader, Minority Leader, and Minority and Majority Whip.
