Cox Communications
The James M. Cox Foundation and Cox Communications have been philanthropic partners of Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) and Boys & Girls Clubs since 1977. Their contributions to BGCA help to fund technology centers and have established significant advances in digital literacy for many Clubs across the nation.
Providing Technology Access to Young People
Support from the James M. Cox Foundation and Cox bridges the digital divide for many young people by funding technology centers and digital access in Boys & Girls Clubs in Cox markets. In total, BGCA has received nearly $60 million in cash and in-kind support to serve more Club members each year. Providing low-cost internet service through its Connect2Compete program, Cox and its local affiliates have also established significant advances in youth digital literacy for many Clubs across the nation.
Innovation Labs
Through its technology grant program and partnership with BGCA, Cox is committed to empowering people today to build a better future for the next generation. Since opening the first innovation labs in 2004, the James M. Cox Foundation and Cox have partnered with BGCA to provide more than 110 state-of-the-art Cox Innovation Labs in Clubs across the nation, making 2024 our lab partnership’s 20th anniversary!
“Thanks to the support of Cox, we were able to create the Cox Innovation Lab, which is the most used space in the entire building.”
– Club staff member, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island
In 2024, the James M. Cox Foundation and Cox have provided $25,000 Cox Innovation Lab grants to eleven additional Clubs across the U.S. to provide students with the tools, technology and computer literacy skills needed to help bridge the digital divide for those who may be without access to a computer or internet at home. The Cox Innovation Labs are safe places for students to explore their interest in STEAM fields, and give students access to vital technology, tools and high-speed internet.
