Fred McGriff

Tampa, Florida

MLB Hall of Famer

For baseball star Fred McGriff, the West Tampa Boys Club wasn’t just a place to play, it was a place to belong. Whether he was shooting hoops or playing bumper pool, Fred remembers the Club as a place where differences disappeared and teammates became friends. He played professionally for six teams during his Major League Baseball career and was one of the greatest power hitters of the 1990s. He also supported the Atlanta Braves in winning the 1995 World Series championship. McGriff was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023 and works for the Atlanta Braves as well as speaks on behalf of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

“I am forever grateful for the experiences I had at the Boys & Girls Club and the invaluable lessons they taught me about the power of unity and acceptance.”
