  1. What attracted you to apply to work for BGCA?
While I was still a Club kid, I decided that one day I would work for the Clubs to make sure every kid, everywhere, had the opportunity to have an awesome Club Experience. I was also fortunate to have met an amazing BGCA professional, Teresa Walch, with whom I stayed connected over the years, and she kept me engaged with the Movement and the opportunities to serve our Clubs.

  2. What is the best thing about working here?
I always feel like every person in this organization is here for the sole purpose of giving kids a life-changing experience, and supports one another so genuinely to accomplish that purpose.

  3. Why do you show up every day?
When I see the kids we serve at the Clubs, I want to do all that I can to give them the amazing experiences they deserve, because I know how important the Club was for me and my friends.

  4. What would you tell a prospective candidate who wants to work here about BGCA?
There is a kid somewhere in the world that is going to have their life changed for the good, in ways they never dreamed possible, because they had an amazing Club experience, and you have a chance to be a part of that.

Jason Ellis

Director, Business & Facility Operations

  1. What attracted you to apply to work for BGCA?
I grew up a club kid, a member of Samuel L. Jones Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. I learned so many life lessons during those formative years at the club. So when I saw the opportunity to work for and give back to the organization that gave so much to me, I couldn't resist.

  2. What is the best thing about working here?
Simply the opportunity to positively impact the lives of our youth.

  3. Why do you show up every day?
Because I truly believe that this organization is making a difference in the lives of so many of America's youth.

  4. What would you tell a prospective candidate who wants to work here about BGCA?
If they have the desire and passion to help uplift and empower America's youth, this organization, the movement as a whole, gives them a true, honest chance to do just that.

Ryan Scheel

Director, Organizational Development

  1. What attracted you to apply to work for BGCA?
I started attending the Boys & Girls Club in La Crosse, WI when I was 5 years old. The Club had a tremendous impact on my childhood. Upon graduation from college, I was hired as a Site Director at the Club that I grew up in and realized that youth development was the career for me. Ten years later, I was offered a position with Boys & Girls Clubs of America as a Director of Organizational Development in the Southwest Region and I jumped at the opportunity. I am passionate about the fact that we are one social movement working collectively to eliminate the opportunity gap that exists in America today and level the playing field for the kids we serve. I was/am attracted to working at BGCA to take what I’ve learned and provide coaching and resources to Clubs across the country so that we can take a leap closer to achieving our Movement’s mission.

  2. What is the best thing about working here?
The best thing about working at BGCA is getting the opportunity to work alongside enthusiastic leaders who tirelessly work every day for a cause that is so important to the future of our society.

  3. Why do you show up every day?
I show up every day because I have the opportunity to impact the lives of millions of young people who need us most. This is a responsibility that I take very seriously and am committed to. I am grateful to the work of the BGCA Movement because it so profoundly shaped my young life and continues to influence my life today.

  4. What would you tell a prospective candidate who wants to work here about BGCA?
If you are interested in working for a cause that is capable of transforming our society, working alongside other purpose driven leaders, and impacting the lives of millions young people who need our help, then you should definitely consider a role at Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Mike Travis

Senior Philanthropy Officer

  1. What attracted you to apply to work for BGCA?
I am a third-generation Club kid (Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston) and know firsthand the impact that Clubs have on 4 million youth annually. My father credits his mentor at the Club for encouraging him to apply himself in school after his guidance counselor told him he was not college material due to a pronounced stutter. He received a full scholarship, was the first of his family to graduate college and was ultimately lifted out of poverty. My dad’s story is not unique; Clubs have helped youth attain great futures for more than 150 years.

  2. What is the best thing about working here?
The mission, my fantastic BGCA colleagues, the Club staff and volunteers, and of course seeing the mission come alive inside a Clubhouse!

  3. Why do you show up every day?
I show up every day because I know my work has a direct impact on local organizations fulfilling their mission. The team of resource development consultants I lead work directly with local Clubs to increase their fundraising capacity to serve more kids, more often, with greater impact. Ensuring Clubs have the resources to hire and retain high-quality youth development professionals serving kids is what motivates me each and every day.

  4. What would you tell a prospective candidate who wants to work here about BGCA?
It will be the most life-affirming and rewarding decision you will make! Despite the size and reach of Boys & Girls Clubs of America across the country, it feels like one big family of mission-focused individuals providing high-quality service to Clubs. You truly have a whole team of professionals across departments with the expertise to deliver world-class service to the organizations we serve – from program to executive development services, resource development to field services – we are one BGCA.

Edwin Link

National Vice President, RD Strategy and Foundations

  1. What attracted you to apply to work for BGCA?
The Mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of America attracted me and the chance to work for a national organization that has both history and an eye towards the future.  For me out of school time is the front lines of where we as a nation can do the most for kids.  BGCA provides the opportunity to make transformation for youth on a national scale.

  2. What is the best thing about working here?
The ‘fit’. Every company or organization has its own personality.  That personality and culture has to be a fit.  At BGCA we believe in hard work that is mission focused.  We believe that we have to change in order to stay relevant in kids lives.  We believe fun is necessary.  There of course is so much more, but those are a few of the best things about working at BGCA.

  3. Why do you show up every day?
Every day is an opportunity to work as an advocate on behalf of 4,300 Clubs and some 4 million kids.  It doesn’t get much better than that.  I believe every young person deserves to feel like they belong – BGCA provides me the opportunity to make that happen.

  4. What would you tell a prospective candidate who wants to work here about BGCA?
We work incredibly hard and run at a fast pace, but that is because there is never a doubt that our mission is critical.  You will never feel more challenged, rewarded and pushed than when you work for BGCA.
