What kind of difference do you hope to make while being a part of BGCA’s National Youth Advisory Council?
I want more children of color to feel deserving. I want them to embrace the goal of them walking through the door, not just waiting outside of it.
What do you think Club and BGCA staff should know to better connect with and understand today’s teens?
We’re young, not unaware. Just because we’re young doesn’t mean we weren’t born into the same world you’re still trying to understand. We’re experiencing this world firsthand, and that gives us a perspective that can’t always be understood from the outside. Sometimes the best way to understand teens is to listen to us and trust that we have something meaningful to contribute.
What brings you joy?
Seeing kids gain the confidence to speak their truth brings me joy.
