Q&A

What kind of difference do you hope to make while being a part of BGCA’s National Youth Advisory Council?

I hope to be a representative of the suppressed voices in my local Native American community. As a proud member of the Navajo Nation, I aim to show that Native youth can succeed when given the opportunity. However, I strive to be the representative that all Native American youth deserve. With such a significant platform, I want to share our culture and shed light on what most don’t see behind closed doors.

Why is it important for BGCA to consider the voices of young people when creating things for Clubs?

It’s important to make changes for the better to ensure that “history doesn’t repeat itself.” Ultimately, the voices of young people are gathering insights on how things can be improved for the future. This doesn’t mean the past needs to be erased; we learn valuable lessons from our mistakes and experiences.

What brings you joy?

My family and friends bring me joy. My mother has always supported everything I pursue. My dad’s realistic perspective keeps me grounded, reminding me to enjoy what I have and be respectful. My paternal grandmother is the woman I strive to be. I did my NYAC interview video near where my grandfather used to rest, and I know he’s the reason I can accomplish what I’m doing now. My friends have gotten to know me personally and encourage the person I am. I couldn’t be more thankful for all of them.
